Euthanasia

Pet euthanasia offers a compassionate farewell, relieving pain and discomfort gently.

A loss of a pet is like losing a family member. We here at Dartmouth Veterinary Hospital make every attempt to provide a quiet, peaceful environment during this difficult time. Our veterinarians and staff are here to listen, counsel and answer any questions you may have.

When should I consider euthanasia?

This can be a very difficult choice to make as many factors can affect your decision. The quality of your pet’s life will often determine when it’s time. Our veterinarians can answer any questions or concerns you may have in making this decision.

What happens during euthanasia?

Essentially the animal is injected with an overdose of anesthetic. A high dose is given intravenously, and the heart stops beating. This is a quick and painless procedure.

Can you stay with your cat during euthanasia?

Yes. We try and provide a stress-free and calm environment for our clients and their pets.

What is the cost of at home or clinic euthanasia?

Cost varies depending on aftercare if an exam is needed etc. You can contact our clinic and get an estimate from our reception team.

Do you offer pet bereavement support service?

Although we do not offer a professional service, our veterinarians and staff will always be here to support you and answer any questions.
