Leanne, RVT Registered Veterinary Technician

As is most likely true of all us in this field, the unconditional love of animals and my desire to make them and their owners' lives better is what has always drawn me. The bond between pet and owner is unique, complicated and amazing. It's a privilege to be part of this on a daily basis.

I graduated from Acadia University with a Bachelor of Science, in the spring of '86, and have been able to meet all the requirements needed to enjoy the title of RVT.

Dartmouth Veterinary Hospital was the place my family and I took our various pets when I was younger. It was always a friendly and warm environment with amazing veterinarians and staff, so when my time came this was an easy decision for me! I joined in 1986 and never looked back. 30 years and counting!

I have always had high interest in pain management, anesthesia, surgery and critical care. As a part of this team, we (RVT's) are able to provide much care, and truly make a difference every day.

What I love most about my job is making a difference in an animal’s life. Having a fearful dog become comfortable and trusting is just as important as saving the life of a hi- by-car victim. Small differences or large - they ALL count!

My favourite thing about the clinic is the staff. We have a fantastic staff of veterinarians, technicians, assistants and client care specialists. "We" are the heart of the business. To have these many truly dedicated people under one roof is a blessing. One I have never taken for granted.

As with most pet owners, I'm sure, there is always that "one" special bond that reaches above all others - a bond that really can never be explained. For me, this was "Baxter." My first dog (as an adult) and one of the kindest, funniest creatures I've ever encountered. Our bond is part of the reason I have so much empathy for our clients and their pets. I GET it!! They can be our everything. Since Baxter, I now have two amazing dogs (a border collie named "Larry" and a Sheltie/border collie named "Marshall") that have filled that void with so much unconditional love - I'm so thankful to have them as well as the two kitty sidekicks, Oliver and Rupert.

I love motorcycles, and despite only ever being a passenger for a brief period of time, I would love to be able to travel across Canada on the back of a touring bike. Only, it would have to be large enough to for me AND my dog!
